At 989 Records, our mission has always been to provide a home for artists who prioritize the craft over the hype. Today, we are incredibly excited to welcome a producer who embodies that philosophy to the core: Jordan B.

Hailing from the vibrant, high-energy streets of Mexico City, Jordan’s musical DNA was forged in the golden era of Trance. However, his journey hasn’t just been about chasing the neon lights of the past; it’s been a disciplined evolution. From his early days of dreaming like the legends to his current, structured approach to production, Jordan has learned that “real music” requires more than just inspiration—it requires study, a relentless creative process, and the courage to ignore social media trends in favor of a signature sound.

In this exclusive interview, we dive deep into his latest project, “Lost In The Forest,” and discuss the sacrifices, the technical shifts, and the “groove-first” mentality that defines the Jordan B experience.

The Early Years: Roots & Development

✅ Where did you grow up, and how did your surroundings influence your connection to music?

I grew up in Mexico City. I remember being surrounded by people who liked electronic music, long rides listening to the old good trance, that’s how I got into electronic music.

✅  If you could advise your younger self at the start of your journey, what would it be?

Study! However, you can, but study is key to making real music.5 If you could advise your younger self at the start of your journey, what would it be? Study! However, you can, but study is key to making real music.

✅ How has your sound changed as you’ve grown personally and artistically?

When I started making music I wanted to shine right away, not having a defined sound, not having a creative process, and not really knowing what message I wanted to send with my music, nowadays everything is more structured, I am trying to stick to a specific sound and not focus on followers or social media, focused on making good quality music, and the rest will come.

✅ Reflecting on your first projects, what’s something you would approach differently now?

Having a creative process and always trying to make it better is key, also having different approaches to creating music, for example, when I cannot come up with good melodies, I then work on the rhythm, drums, or mixing, instead of just closing the program and giving up for the day.

✅ What’s one major sacrifice you’ve made to stay dedicated to your music?

Giving up other hobbies, such as playing video games or going out with friends, but I like to balance it.

Artist Profile

✅ Which artists or sounds had the biggest influence on your style early in your career?

I was way too into TRANCE, Tiesto, Armin, Van Dyk led the list, I wanted to be like them, make music like them, tour like them.

✅ Is there a sound or technique that you feel best defines your signature style?

I am the kind of DJ who enjoys watching the crowd dancing, so I try to make my music with tons of groove and rhythm.

✅ Why do you believe it’s important for artists to focus on developing their own sound rather than following trends?

TOTALLY! You need to first master your craft before showing it anywhere, and we sometimes, at the beginning, rush to upload music that does not meet the standards, making us feel bad because people don’t like it.

✅ How do you decide when a track is complete?

Lately, I let the track rest for a couple of weeks after I think there is nothing else to do to it. This helps me to listen to the track with almost no reference, and then decide if it can improve or is absolutely finished.

✅ How do you keep pushing your creative limits?

By exploring new tools, new methods, and experimenting with instruments I did notknow before.
