Max Porcelli — DJ, Producer and Label Founder
I’m Max Porcelli. I’ve been making, playing and teaching electronic music since 1989.
It started at 14, on my first night in an Italian club: JBL stacks, fog, lights, and a DJ above the floor running the whole room. I learned to mix in a friend’s garage, then in a cellar in northeast Italy, recording cassette mixes and listening back the next morning to hear everything I’d got wrong.
What I do
- Label. Founder and head of 989 Records, the independent house and tech house label I started in 2007 in Pordenone, Italy.
- Production. Over 90 releases as producer and remixer. I’ve remixed Jocelyn Brown and Inaya Day. My first record was produced with Sam Paganini, who taught me more in a handful of sessions than a year of trial and error.
- DJing. Behind the decks since 1989, with my first live set in a Slovenian club in 2007. In 2018 I directed a DJ school in Ibiza and hosted a show on Mambo Radio.
- Radio. The 989 Records Radio Show airs on Balearica Music Radio (Ibiza) and Patchouli Deep Radio (London).
- Teaching. Steinberg Certified Trainer. I teach music production and DJing through 989 Academy, and on Udemy and SkillShare, where I’ve worked with thousands of students.
How I write
Everything on this blog comes from behind the decks, from the studio and from the classroom. When I quote gear specifications or prices I check them against the manufacturer’s own documentation, and I say so when a figure is approximate. If you find something outdated, the contact form is open.
